Myths and Facts About Alcoholism

Image
Alcohol use disorder, also known as alcohol abuse, alcohol dependence, or alcoholism, is a common condition. But it's often misunderstood. Neither is it as glamorous as one sees in movies nor is it an easy habit to get rid of as "claimed" by some popular figures.  I am a former addict who has recovered completely and today am a successful author as well as entrepreneur. Since my recovery, I have made it my mission to help others #fightaddiction and become #healthy, #joyful people again. Please read the #myths and #facts about alcoholism. Please note that these are based on some excerpts from a book I authored titled #AlcoholismtoSoberism. Myth - 1 I can stop drinking whenever I want.   Fact It is very unlikely. Alcoholism is an addiction. That is, the issue concerns challenges of both the mind and body. You may take lots of medication, yet may not be able to control your urge.    Myth - 2 My drinking is my problem. You have no right to tell me what to do or wh...

My special method to fight addiction and depression

Image
In my previous posts and on my YouTube channel, I have described my journey from #alcoholismtosoberism. But a highlight that many of you would have missed is even I had undergone depression. My addiction to substances such as alcohol and drugs ruined my life completely and sent me to the bottom of depression. Depression is a mental illness frequently co-occurring with substance use. The relationship between the two disorders is bi-directional, meaning that people who misuse substances are more likely to suffer from depression, and vice versa. People who are depressed may drink or use drugs to lift their mood or escape from feelings of guilt or despair. T his occurred vice versa for me. That is, I became depressed after extensive use of alcohol. But substances like alcohol, which is a depressant, can increase fatigue, affecting concentration, inhibitions, decision-making and reaction times. Alcohol misuse may even lead to falling asleep during work or any other activity. ...

Stopping alcohol addiction

I know what it feels like. I have also been there myself. A world where nothing else besides a bottle of beer/wine/rum/whisky or any other variant of liquor makes sense. You get up, you want to drink. You watch television; you want to drink. You work, you still want to drink, and so on! Life gets horrible, financial losses pile up, your health plummets down, and everyone leaves you alone. But…don’t think that the world had ended for you. You can be cured or rather you can come out of this addiction. It does not require extensive medication or “chains of torture”; that is figuratively speaking.   It only requires your “will” to do so. Like mentioned, I too had this same phase in life. But with the support of my life partner, a few friends and my mentor; I am today a successful book author and an accountant by profession. I also run a small business of my own. If I can do that, you can do too.   Some easy steps that you can take include, ·     ...

Depression is only a phase

Image
Depression is Only a Phase   Everyone of us would go through a stage in life wherein everything seems to be wrong.   It may be due to fear or anxiety of a situation or even hopelessness. Think of it…tense about an examination, worried about huge bills? Continuously being insulted or even tortured by someone? Feeling destroyed after the death of a loved one? Failure in love?   There could be several reasons like this and the result will be that you enter depression.   Depression is one of the most common types of mental health conditions and often develops alongside anxiety. This can be mild and short-lived or severe and long- lasting. Some people are affected by depression only once, while others may experience it multiple times.   What causes it? Depression can happen as a reaction to something like abuse, violence in school, the death of someone close or family problems like domestic violence or family breakdown. Someone...

Addiction is a big menace

Image
Let us face it. The world today is far from what one would call beautiful or even “nice”. The venom of war, corruption, crimes, and even diseases have spread their talons all across. But what is the cause of all these? It could be poverty, it could be depression, it could be greed, or even natural calamities. However, these reasons are vague. So, does everyone in the world have a bad intention? Not everyone is born a thief, a criminal or an anti-social element. Addiction to a habit or a third-party substance makes them. Think about it? How many criminals, anti-social elements or even jobless/irrational/menacing/mentally ill people you can think of those were not addicted to substances such as liquor, nicotine or drugs? Addiction is a disease that affects your brain and behavior. This is the hidden evil.  Let us take a brief look at the major types of addictions. Addiction to Alcohol- Alcoholism is the inability to control drinking due to both a physical and emotional ...
