Myths and Facts About Alcoholism

Alcohol use disorder, also known as alcohol abuse, alcohol dependence, or alcoholism, is a common condition. But it's often misunderstood. Neither is it as glamorous as one sees in movies nor is it an easy habit to get rid of as "claimed" by some popular figures.  I am a former addict who has recovered completely and today am a successful author as well as entrepreneur. Since my recovery, I have made it my mission to help others #fightaddiction and become #healthy, #joyful people again.

Please read the #myths and #facts about alcoholism. Please note that these are based on some excerpts from a book I authored titled #AlcoholismtoSoberism.

Myth - 1

I can stop drinking whenever I want.

 Fact

It is very unlikely. Alcoholism is an addiction. That is, the issue concerns challenges of both the mind and body. You may take lots of medication, yet may not be able to control your urge.

 Myth - 2

My drinking is my problem. You have no right to tell me what to do or what not to.

 Fact

It is true that it is your decision whether to drink or not. But do note that drinking not only affects you, but everyone else around you; especially close ones. Your problem is their problem.

 Myth – 3

I am not an addict. Just a normal, healthy person who has habit of drinking.

 Fact

Many alcoholics are functional people who go to work or an educational institution. Some even excel at what they do. But that doesn’t mean you are safe. The consequences will be disastrous if you don’t fix the disease in time.

Myth – 4

Drinking is not a real addiction like drugs.

 Fact

It is exactly like drugs. Alcohol impacts the neurotransmitter circuits in your brain and make you longing for more. Constant usage can affect the brain’s neuronal functions. To put it bluntly, alcohol is sadly today a “legal drug”. Businesses earn from its sale, while you suffer.

If you think you may have alcohol use disorder or a related problem, such as binge drinking, you’re not alone.

People may often avoid seeking treatment because of the stigma associated with these conditions. However, treatment is within reach. Send me messages through WhatsApp, mail or just call me to discuss further. We can have a 1:1 session.

Having been in it myself, I know the difficulties and now I know how to face those difficulties.  Help me help you. There is nothing to be embarrassed about. This is a fight and I will help you win!
