Why fight alcoholism?

Do you drink alcohol? How frequent? Occasionally? At meetings? Once a day? After every meal? Don’t immediately skip this blog. It isn’t a written lecture on why you must not drink. Everyone has their own tastes. I am not judging that. The question you must ask yourself is how much and what is the limit? It is no secret that consumption of alcohol could be detrimental or in simpler words, affect your health.  The limit could depend on individual capacities, but excessive consumption of alcohol and that too on a constant basis is harmful to all. It could cause alcoholism.

Also known as Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), alcoholism is a chronic disease that represents an addiction to alcohol every second you are awake. That is, if you suffer from alcoholism, you may treat alcohol with the oxygen you breathe.  This will create a negative impact on not only yourself, but all those around you. The following are some signs of the disease/

1.     Physical and Psychological dependence on alcohol with withdrawal symptoms such anxiety or nausea, when not drinking or trying to quit.

  1.      Drinking alone or in secret.
  2.      Difficulty controlling consumption such as repeated failures in quitting completely or reducing consumption.
  3.    Neglecting responsibilities at work, home, or school/college due to drinking.
  4.        Health problems such as High blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, digestive problems, and also different types of Cancer.
  5.        Loss of interest in the world around you.
  6.        Blackouts, memory lapses and more!

The number of issues cross the length of words you would be interested to read in a blog such as this.

Family members of alcoholics can experience anxiety, depression and shame related to their loved one's addiction. Family members may also be the victims of emotional or physical outbursts. A person addicted to alcohol may try to shield their family from the impact of alcohol abuse by distancing themselves

A few of the more dangerous societal effects of alcoholism also include increased injuries to self, aggression against others, violent crimes, child abuse, spouse abuse, and traffic fatalities.

Drinking not only increases the possibility of employees getting injured, it can also lead to more on-the-job accidents. Additionally, alcohol can cause a lack of concentration and coordination in an employee's work performance. This reduces productivity, which in turn impacts business goals and objectives.
